Technical Superintendent – Dry Bulk (Geared Vessels)
Job Role Summary:
The Technical Superintendent will oversee the technical management, maintenance, and operational readiness of assigned dry bulk geared vessels, ensuring safety, compliance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. This role involves close coordination with shipboard staff, classification societies, flag authorities, and other stakeholders to maintain high technical standards and achieve optimal vessel performance.
Job Requirements:
- Class 1 Marine Engineer Certificate of Competency (Chief Engineer) or equivalent.
- Minimum 1 year of sailing experience as Chief Engineer on geared dry bulk carriers.
- Minimum 1 year of shore-based experience as Technical Superintendent.
- Experience on ME engines will be preferred.
- Ability to manage budgets and control costs effectively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with multinational crews and stakeholders.
Job Responsibilities:
- Oversee day-to-day technical performance, maintenance, and repairs of assigned geared dry bulk vessels.
- Monitor vessel performance, including fuel consumption, machinery efficiency, and cargo gear condition.
- Plan and execute dry dockings, surveys, inspections, and audits.
- Ensure compliance with Class, Flag State, ISM, and company safety standards.
- Manage budgets, approved requisitions, and control technical costs.
- Plan, budget, and execute dry docking, major repairs, and overhauls.
- Prepare dry dock specifications, supervise repair activities, and verify completion.
- Support and guide onboard teams, particularly in cargo gear operation and maintenance.
- Facilitate onboard technical training and familiarization with geared cargo equipment.
- Maintain accurate vessel technical records, maintenance reports, and compliance documentation.
